Happy Halloween!

Why did the vampire subscribe to the Wall Street Journal?

He heard it had good circulation.

Where is Baby's Pumpkin?

One of the things I love about the most about the holidays, is all of the great children's books that are available. One of my little cupcakes' favorites, is a Halloween story titled, Where is Baby's Pumpkin? Each page is done in bright, colorful illustrations, and even has textures like velvet and sparkles.

The story follows "Baby", who is looking for her pumpkin so she can go trick-or-treating. You must help her locate the pumpkin by looking under hidden flaps and behind cupboard doors. It's short and sweet, but my little boy loves to turn the pages, and to have me read it to him over and over. I think we got our copy at Borders, but I've also seen it at Walmart and Target (there is an entire series of "Baby" books by author Karen Katz). Happy Halloween reading!

Halloween cards

A couple of years ago, while I was perusing through a local stationary shop, I stumbled upon these darling Halloween greeting cards made by an artist named Becky Kelly. Originally I had planned to mail them to a friend during the holiday, but I liked them so well I decided to keep them for myself. Yeah, I'm selfish like that. Later, I purchased some $1 black frames at Target, and now the framed "art" comes out every Halloween to sit on my shelf. Aren't they darling? I love Becky Kelly's attention to detail, and at times her work reminds me of classic Suzy's Zoo or Mary Englebright. Along with cards, notepads and stationary, you can also find Becky Kelly books, calendars and other paraphernalia. Happy Halloween!

My Favorite Things: Halloween Edition

Two words: Edward Cullen. *sigh* I can't say enough good things about this tasty little dish of Vampire love called Twilight! It was written for teenagers, yet is interesting and compelling enough for adults. I loved Stephenie Meyer's take on the Vampire story...I was held in suspense until the very last page. P.S. I just started her third book, Eclipse, tonight. I think my husband will be happy when I finally finish this series so that our lives can return to normal again.

I love just about everything Jim Shore does. From their colorful Santa figurines, to nostalgic Disney pieces, and obviously their cute Halloween witches. I'm a collector, so for me there is nothing more exciting than my next Jim Shore purchase, particularly when it's on a trip up to the Gardner Village Christmas Shoppe.

Fall means fresh apples right from the tree, and that of course means caramel apples! An apple by itself is merely good, but dip it in luscious caramel and then roll it through some sort of sugary confection...now that's divine! Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory's are a little pricey, but your mouth will certainly thank you for the splurge.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
. My favorite Halloween movie of all-time. Sure, I like Tim Burton's version as well, but this one is something I can actually watch with the kiddies. Call me nostalgic, but I love when the cool weather hits. I grab a big quilt, pop some popcorn, and settle in for 30 minutes of spooky fun with this Washington Irving treasure (which actually follows the book verbatim). Plus, the sound of Bing Crosby's melodious voice gets me in the mood for my next favorite holiday...
