Attention Cupcake Chowder fans! Just when you think you can't handle any more Stephenie Meyer this year, she surprises us with yet another vampire book to obsess over. Mark your calendars girls, the encyclopedia is scheduled for release on December 30th, 2008. Merry Christmas and happy reading!
The latest creation from magical muggle author J.K. Rowling is this stunning collectors edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard. Offered exclusively through Amazon.com, this leather-bound collector's copy is a costly $100, but is seemingly worth the price. With re-creations of Rowling's original hand-written introduction, as well as drawings and extensive notes taken by Professor Albus Dumbledore himself, the book looks to be a rare treat. Along with 5 short stories by the Bard himself, this handsome volume also includes background information on wizarding society and history; from the early muggle "witch hunts" to present-day dark arts and beyond. Beedle the Bard (to be released December 4, 2008) has jumped to the top of my "wish list", and would make a wonderful gift for your imaginative would-be-wizard or collector of rare and unique treasures. Jessica Seinfeld (wife of comedian Jerry Seinfeld) just came out with a new cookbook for moms called Deceptively Delicious. Many of you probably saw her on Oprah a few weeks ago. I thought her ideas were so great I decided I needed to pick up a copy of this, and try her healthy recipes. It's basically a way to feed your family good foods without them knowing about it.
Jessica spends one night a week steaming and pureeing raw vegetables and storing them in ziplock baggies in her fridge or freezer. She then pulls them out and throws them into whatever she happens to be cooking that night. Apparently cauliflower, squash, and zucchini make for a really good chocolate cake. She puts pureed vegetables in everything from french toast to spaghetti and meatballs to chocolate brownies (which apparently are Jerry's favorite...he calls them "death row brownies" because he could eat them as a "last meal"). I love that Jessica is just a mom who was tired of trying to make her kids eat their vegetables.
*The question I keep asking myself is why can't I come up with a million dollar idea like this one?!
Recently, I've been coming up with color schemes and ideas for re-decorating my bedroom. Actually I should clarify; I'm not re-decorating it, I've finally picked a theme, furniture, and colors for the first time since we purchased the house. (Sad, huh?) To complement my black, cream, and cranberry room (also my wedding colors), I've been on the computer night and day sampling different artwork that I think might go with my plans. I wanted something special: something not too masculine, and not too feminine. Nothing outlandish. Something that would compliment both my taste, as well as my husbands. I knew I was leaning towards black and white, and as there isn't a lot of artwork in those colors, I knew my medium had to be photographs. I'm not an Ansel Adams fan. I don't like celebrity photos. I knew I wanted a photograph of a location, but it had to be somewhere special. Somewhere I have actually been before.I found this photograph of St. Paul's Cathedral, that was taken in London during the blitz (1941?) by Herbert Mason. I know it might seem a little morbid to some of you, but it really struck a chord with me. Even in the midst of the turbulence and the fear, the cathedral rises above the smoke an ashes. It is a symbol of strength and peace. I have a lot of great memories from my trip to England last year, especially the time we spent in London. Princess Diana was married in St. Paul's. Julie Andrews sang about the cathedral in Mary Poppins. Sir Winston Churchill is buried there. I think the photograph is something I will be excited to see every time I walk into my bedroom.
